About the event
Join other first time players and learn the game of American Mahjong at our 3 Class Series designed for beginners at Gourmand Market: Mahj'N 101, Mahj'N 102, and Mahj'N Play. Each class is from 5:30pm - 7:00pm.
We provide all the mahjong sets, learning materials and fun for an unforgettable experience. We can't wait to get our mahj on with you!

People NEED at least 2 lessons to really grasp the game, and to cover all of the rules.
Mahj'N 101 - For the brand new, first time player looking to learn American mahjong from the very beginning. Learn the basics: identifying the tiles, objective of the game, reading the NMJL card, and format of play. No prior knowledge or experience needed.
Mahj'N 102 - For the player, who attended Mahj’N 101, a private lesson, or has an understanding of the basics. We review the tiles and card, receive additional rules not covered in Mahj’N 101, and provides more guided play as we “dive into how to play”. Let's review, refresh, and build those skills and strategy!
Both lessons are needed to fully learn the game of mahjong and all the rules.
Mahj'N Play- This class is recommended for Mahjong players that know the tiles, basic rules & pace of play. If you’ve already taken two lessons from us, this is a great follow up. Have you had a lesson or two, but still feel like you have questions? Come, play, and ask questions. Play with an instructor present who will provide guidance and answer questions. Build confidence in setting up, dealing, the Charleston, picking a hand, and remembering ALL the rules. This guided play session will get you ready to play independently.
