How the Scramble Works
More games. More connection. A better way to play mahjong.
The Bambird Scramble is a seasonal mahjong ladder designed to bring consistency, connection, and just the right amount of competition to your game.
Whether you're playing socially or more competitively, the Scramble gives you a simple way to get more games on the table—and meet more people while you do it.
Quick Start
1. Join your local Scramble
Find your city and register for the current season.
2. Schedule matches
Log into the portal to propose or join games that fit your schedule.
3. Play + submit scores
Play in person, submit your scores, and watch the leaderboard update live.

The Basics

How Matches Work

Players log into the Scramble portal to propose or join matches

A match includes: 4 Scramble players and 4 games (each player deals once)
When proposing a match, you’ll set: the day, time, location (home, restaurant, wine bar, brewery, coffee shop, club, etc.)

Match type: Social (more relaxed, connection-focused) or Focused (more strategic, competitive play)
Once 4 players join—it’s game on.

Scoring & Leaderboards
Each match is scored and submitted through the portal.
We track two leaderboards: Cumulative Leaderboard (your top 2 scores per week: Monday–Sunday count) and ​Average Leaderboard (includes all matches played)​. To be eligible for the Average leaderboard, players must complete a minimum number of 6 matches during the season.

The Scramble Portal
Your home base for the season. Inside the portal, you can: propose and join matches, submit scores, and track live leaderboards. As well as, view the member directory and connect with other players.

A Few Key Guidelines
All matches must be in-person. Matches must include 4 registered Scramblers to count. A substitute/non-registered player (“Bob”) makes the match ineligible for scoring- can't play with 3 players. We follow standard NMJL rules.
