SCRAMBLERS

  • Scramblers will self-rank as a Beginner player or an Advanced player.

  • Rankings will be visible to other players when they accept and propose matches. There will be a "B" or "A" next to each player's name.

SCRAMBLE MATCH RULES

  • Scramblers either:

    •  a) propose a match - the date, the location and time or

    •  b) accept a match using the Scramble Portal.

  • The proposing Scrambler must designate the match location. Examples include your home, wine bar, coffee shop, brewery, community space at a library/YMCA, etc, or country club. An accessible bathroom is required.

  • EACH SCRAMBLER MUST ACCEPT the match proposal directly in the Scramble Portal in order to play. Do NOT reply to the email notification to accept — all confirmations must be done in the Portal.

    • To accept the match, click the "Join Match". Once 4 players accept a match, a confirmation email will be sent to all 4 players.

  • A reminder email will be sent to all 4 players 24 hours before the match.

  • A Mahj Match will consist of 4 games.  A Mahj Match consists of anywhere from 4 games. You are welcome to play additional games following the completion of 4 games, if all parties agree, BUT only the first 4 game scores will be counted.

  • If a match must be rescheduled, it must be rescheduled within 7 days of proposed match time.

  • Please print our scorecard, for ease of keeping score during the game.

  • Each Scrambler should keep score on their own scorecard at each match they play.

  • The Proposer is responsible for submitting the match scores in the Scramble Portal.
Scores should be entered immediately after the match ends, while all players are still together to confirm and approve.

  • Scramblers may play as many matches as they like each week, Monday through Sunday. However, only the top two scores will automatically count toward the leaderboard each week. All scores should still be submitted, and the leaderboard will update instantly as new results are entered.

  • If you need to unaccept a match, please make sure to personally notify all players who were signed up — no matter how far in advance the match was scheduled. While the system will automaticaly send a cancellation email, it is considered common courtsey to also reach out directly to your fellow players.

  • For the best experience, we recommend accessing the Scramble Portal on a computer rather than a mobile device. While the site is functional on phones, certain fonts may appear white or difficult to read in mobile view. To avoid this, make sure your phone & computer are set to light mode under Settings- Display & Brightness. You can add the portal as an app-style icon on your home screen:

  • Please WRITE YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD down somewhere secure. If you forget your login, use “Forgot Username or Password” to reset. Please DO NOT CREATE MORE THAN 1 ACCOUNT.

BAMBIRD SCRAMBLE ETIQUETTE

We created the Bambird Scramble to provide mahjong players a way to have standing games, sharpen their skills, and to build a mahjong community. We have created some guidelines so players can navigate the game with grace, fairness, and respect towards everyone at the table.

  • Be polite & aware of mixed levels. Patience is appreciated as some players may be more novice players.  Providing a positive environment by encouraging others and providing tips, is always appreciated and the next time you meet those players, they will most likely have stepped up their game! Everyone is a beginner at some point. *As the league grows, we anticipate 2 ladders in the future- one for Pretties & one for Fierces. Please bear with us, and encourage friends to join!

  • Be cognizant of the pace of the game. While we know the portal allows for all players to play together, be aware of the match/players you are playing with.  Challenge yourself to play faster if playing with Fierces or challenge yourself to slow pace if needed.  Fierce players (seasoned players) will more than likely discard tiles at a fast pace so Pretties

  • Window of Opportunity- Table Agreement. To avoid mid-hand arguments about when the window closes to call the prior discard (for exposures or Mahjong), all 4 players should discuss and agree upon before play begins when the window of opportunity is closed. The window of opportunity is closed when the next player racks their tile, fully names the discard, places a discard on the table face up, calls Mahjong, or initiates a Joker exchange. All 4 players should discuss and announce before the first deal what will qualify as when the window of opportunity is closed so that everyone is on the same page.

  • Respect fellow Scamblers' time & limit distractions. Arrive on time for matches, and limit distractions — please refrain from taking phone calls or joining Zoom meetings while playing, as it disrupts the flow of the game and shows a lack of respect for others. To keep matches running smoothly, please allow at least 1.5 hours between scheduled matches. Back-to-back matches without a break are not permitted. This buffer helps ensure matches start on time and players aren’t rushed, keeping the Scramble fair and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Be gracious. Validate the winning hand and congratulate the winner. Remember, a winning hand is ALWAYS A BEAUTIFUL LINE.
